The incident sparked widespread criticism from celebrities including Khloé Kardashian and Dionne Warwick, who called the treatment "disrespectful" to the 13-time Grammy winner. The Associated Press quickly issued a public apology, tweeting they were "deeply sorry for cutting our interview with Babyface short" and reaching out to his representatives.

Roan, who won Best New Artist that evening, was seemingly unaware of the controversy. Babyface himself remained gracious, stating the best part of the night was "reconnecting with old friends" and celebrating music.
